Homa Bay County Assembly Acting Speaker Evans Marieba and Majority Leader Walter Were Muok was on Tuesday removed from office.
The MCAs, after hearing a motion presented by Kendu Bay Town MCA Maurice Ogwang’, elected Kabondo West MCA Godfrey Anyango the new Speaker with his Kanyaluo counterpart Jeff Ongoro taking over as the Majority Leader.
Anyango obtained 53 votes out of 60 MCAs despite being the only candidate proposed for the position during the proceeding. He was sworn into office immediately after his election by assembly Clerk Daniel Kaudo; Ongoro also resumed his new duties promptly.
Addressing the press after their ouster, Marieba and Muok welcomed the decision saying it was in the best decision of the House to ensure peace.
The reason for their removal from the office is still unclear.
