Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has closed all mortuaries in his county for the next 30 days.
Oparanya said the order was part of his plan to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Kakamega county. He asked the residents who had bodies of their loved ones to urgently collect them free of charge.
Oparanya further directed that families should hold burials immediately in case of death until the pandemic is under control.
He closed all markets, weddings and instructed all night clubs to observe 11 pm curfew, and directed that any public vehicle passing through the county should provide sanitizers to the members of the public that board the vehicles.
Oparanya said he will be addressing his county and updating them about Coronavirus every 48 hours.
